Walt Whitman was one of the most influential poets of America, also known as father of Free Verse. Walt Whitman published  “Leaves of Grass” in 1855 with his own money. He took up several jobs during his lifetime such as journalist, teacher, government clerk and volunteered as nurse in America Civil war.

Walt Whitman poems published in “Leaves Of Grass” was controversial at that time, but today it considers as one of the iconic work in American Literature.

Born in New York, Whitman journey to become greatest poet of all time was not smooth always.  He had to leave school at the age of 11 and mostly self taught, later at the age of 17 he started teaching  to support his family.  Later he started working for newspapers, but due to his controversial on many subjects such as labor issues, immigration and sexuality within 4 years he was fired from 7 different newspapers.
